STORYBOARDS
Storyboards are a tradition of the Kambot area in the lower
Sepik. A storyboard is a carved wooden board which literally tells a story.
Storyboard themes include village life, adventures and encounters with wild
animals and spirits. Storyboards are displayed in Haus Tambarans as decorations.
The brown
storyboard is finished with a natural wax from the milk of the kapiak tree
while the details are picked out by white lime and ochres.
Storyboards
are unique PNG artifacts perfect for wall hanging and are a fascinating 3D
alternative to paintings for interior decor. However they remain largely
undiscovered by art dealers, interior decorators and collectors.
Most storyboards are newly crafted in Kambot district
villages and shipped out for sale. Antique carved storyboards are not available
as the production of wooden storyboards only began in the 1960s as a
replacement for bark boards which were fragile and did not last long.
Every
storyboard is unique: no two are the same as they each tell different stories
with different characters and settings.
Photographs
shown below are examples of different sized storyboards available. We can
supply you with a storyboard of similar size and style to the ones shown in the
photographs below, although exact appearance will vary.
Retail
prices quoted are in US dollars. Discounts apply to bulk orders.
